Swing Fever

California’s Swing Fever will likely get the island temperature rising and lots of feet moving at the San Juan Community Theatre on Friday, September 25 at 7:30 p.m.

With its more than 1,000-song repertoire of swingin’ jazz from the ‘30s and ‘40s, the “small swing band with a big band sound” (five players and one vocalist) will keep the Whittier stage jumpin’. A special dance floor will be provided on stage for those audience members ready to cut a rug.

Swing Fever has been a popular San Francisco Bay Area group since 1978 when band leader Barry Gould gave up his job at the Marin County Probation Department and focused on music. He’s recruited players who have performed and recorded with such legends as Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald, Bing Crosby and Tony Bennett. The band itself has toured with renowned musicians like Count Basie/Duke Ellington trumpeter Clark Terry and clarinetist Buddy DeFranco.

Critic Phil Elwood of the S.F. Examiner said the band plays “as though the numbers are on today’s Hit Parade.” Check out their sounds at www.swingfever.com
