Passing the citizenship test….

It's always good to have a special guest at your meetings....

It's always good to have a special guest at your meetings....A statuesque Lady Liberty appeared at the League of Women Voters meeting last month. Members and guests tested themselves by taking the U.S. citizenship naturalization test and learned about the history of immigration.

Last month the League of Women Voters held their regular meeting with something special – first of all, the Statue of Liberty showed up, as you can see. (That’s Susan Dehlendorf, I think…)

The other interesting thing was they offered a test that’s like the one folks who are becoming new citizens get to take…so I asked if I could share the questions with you (so you could see how you do!)

So – here ya go:

1. What does the Constitution do?
2. The idea of self-government is in the first three words of the
Constitution.  What are these words?
3. What do we call the first 10 amendments to the Constitution?
4. What are two rights in the Declaration of Independence?
5. What keeps one branch of government from becoming ?
6. The House of Representatives has how many voting members?
7. Why do some states have more representatives thn others?
8. If the President can no longer serve, who becomes President?  If that
person cannot serve, who becomes President?
9. What does the President’s Cabinet do?
10. What does the judicial branch do?
11. Who is the Chief Justice?
12. What is one power reserved to the federal government?  What is one
power belonging to the states?
13. Name one right only for U.S. citizens.  Name two rights of everyone
living in the United States.
14. What is one promise you make when you become a U. S. citizen?
15. Why did the colonists fight the British?
16. Name three (or more) of the original 13 states.
17. The Federalist Papers supported the passage of the U.S. Constitution. Name one (or more) of the writers.
18. What is one thing Benjamin Franklin is famous for.
19. Who was President during World War I?
20. Name one (or more) American Indian tribe(s) in the United States.
21. Name one (or both) of the longest rivers in the United States.
22. Name one U.S. territory (or more).
23. Name two (or up to 10) national U.S. holidays.
24. Where is the Statue of Liberty?
