• You know Manya – you’ve seen her selling her jewelry at Farmers’ Market on Saturdays – she just became a grandmother! Here’s more:

Ebony and Kirsten Pickard are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Manya Eilena Pickard, born at 10:10pm April 20th in Port Townsend, Washington.  She weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces at birth. Ebony lived on San Juan Island for most of his life before moving to Port Townsend, where he married Kirsten Wright, an obstetric nurse.

Manya Eilena is welcomed to the family by her brother, Nathan Allen, and her grandparents, Manya Pickard and Shel Bedsole of San Juan Island, Eileen Elston-Wright and Charles Wright of Florida and Don Bradley of Sausalito, California.

This is neat – Island Rec has set things up so folks can register for classes online! Here’s more from Sally:

Island Rec is delighted to announce that beginning May 1 people can register for almost every Island Rec program online and pay by credit card, simply by going to www.islandrec.org

One can now register from the comfort of their home or any public computer that has access to the internet, anytime day or night and enroll in their favorite Island Rec program.

Some great features of this program allow people to pay by credit card; online print off receipts; review what programs for which they have  enrolled and see how many spaces are left in any particular program.

Island Rec remains open Monday through Friday 1-5pm for people who want to register in person.  In person registration for our summer season begins on May 3.

• It’s time for the Children’s Festival again! It’s this coming weekend at the Fairgrounds – see you there! Here’s a portfolio from last year’s…it was great!

• There’s is still time to sign up for Lakedale‘s Gourmet Glamping weekend on the 14th & 15th – here’s how (and what glamping is! – from the San Juan Islands Visitors’ Bureau.)

Paradise Lanes had their first Friday Night Sweeper of the year a couple of weeks ago – Susan Anderson from the bowling alley reports the winners:

Paradise Lanes hosted its first Sweeper of the year.  This tournament was for league bowlers with established handicaps. Each bowler (28 total) bowled 4 games – one on each pair of lanes. One place for every 4 entries was paid.  First place was a 3-day 2-night stay in Las Vegas, won by Susan Ross.  Six more places were paid as follows:  2nd – Michelle Brown, 3rd Richard Pederson, 4th Jim Guard, 5th Chuck Scott, 6th Joel Ball, 7th Cecil Dent; and Kim Burns had the High Handicap Game.  Jimmy’s Cafe provided munchies and drink specials. Everyone had a good time including the cheering section. Many are looking forward to another sweeper in May.
