Beth Helstien reports that everyone had a great time earlier this week:

Hey Ian!
Spanish Storytime (or Hora de Cuentos) at the library was a fantastic program Tuesday evening. Brook Landers from Friday Harbor High recruited 3rd year Spanish student Lita Gislason who read Olivia and From Head to Toe out loud to the mixed group.

Stories to share...

Alma Pamatz, who works at the Life Care Center of the San Juan Islands, shared finger plays and rhymes. Linda Barnhart, Jeanne Lee and Beth Helstien cooked up empanadas, and the High School contingent helped out with home made cookies in conjunction with the story Brook Landers read, Si le das un galletita a un raton (known in English as If You Give a Mouse a Cookie).

Melina Lagios organized the event and set up a craft where kids and adults decorated paper drums. Check it out in the attached photo montage.

Keep your eyes open for another Hora de Cuentos / Bilingual Storytime coming in the next few months.
