It’s this Saturday – March 23. 1:00 – 4:00 pm. – Come for an afternoon to share the San Juan Island Conservation Corps’ showcase of their timber and rock retaining wall projects on the Land Bank property adjacent to Lime Kiln State Park.

Middle-schoolers and SJICC members Eric Sable and Jessie Pachuta will lead us through their project and crew experience. SJI Conservation Corps program manager and leader Sarah Hanson plus SJC Land Bank Steward, Doug McCutchen, will be on-site as well, to answer questions and give background.

Circle up, play a game, learn strategic methods of trail-and-community-building, walk to the work project sites, hear summaries and evaluations of what the participants learned, liked and wished for differently! Hear what is being planned for spring and summer 2013. Catch the enthusiasm! Meet our island youngsters who are developing their leadership voices for the community; learning valuable, hands-on naturalist and project-oriented skills and learning what the current practice of marine and land stewardship entails.

End the afternoon with a celebration of our state parks’ Centennial Year. Yes, that’s One Hundred Years of our WA State Parks! Meet chief ranger Ted Schlund. Hosted by the Friends of Lime Kiln Society (F.O.L.K.S.), we will enjoy birthday cake and lemonade.
