Lina Downes, the Director of the upcoming La Danse De La Mer ballet production has this note to share with you…

Are you thinking February will be dull in the aftermath of the Holidays? Look no further for entertainment than “Prince of the Rain Realm”, an original, full length, “adult fairy tale” contemporary ballet, danced by professional dance company “La Danse De La Mer” and set to music from Pink Floyd to Mozart!

Onstage at the mainstage of San Juan Community Theatre, one night only, Feb. 7th Saturday at 7:30pm, “Prince” is dark, lushly romantic, humourous, and “would be rated pg 13, if it were a film” said Director Lina Downes.

The professional contemporary ballet dancers who will soar through the air in “Prince” using their barefeet and their pointe shoes are sure to capture the San Juan audience in their spell, – including one male dancer who is internationally renowned for dancing “en pointe”!

“La Danse De La Mer” company members include world-touring professional dancers Danny Boulet, who dances the leading role of the Prince, and his fraternal twin brother Sylvain, who dances the role of the evil Lord of the Stark Realm in this fantasy saga, fairy tale inspired production.

“This ballet is all about what makes ‘Grimm’s Fairy Tales’ so wonderful, with a ‘good Prince’ vs. a ‘Dark Lord’ story/theme. If you like Tolkien’s ‘Ring’, ‘Harry Potter’ or even Wagner’s ‘Ring’, you’ll love this fantastical production,” said Downes,

“La Danse” principal dancer, contemporary ballerina Caitlin Ross, dances the role of the fantasy Princess opposite Danny Boulet. “Ms. Ross is known for her earthy and sensual yet delicate dance expression that makes her a joy to watch in performance,” said Downes, who is the Choreographer of “Prince”.

Other featured “La Danse” company dancers are Andrew Hallenbeck, who recently graduated with honors as a dance major from the University of Irvine, California, and dances a variety of fantasy roles in this production, and Kerry Ratza, who will perform the role “Desire” to live backstage music from the cello of Sasha Von Dassow.

Cameo roles are performed in the ballet by dancers Julie Hagn, Stephen Moore, Michelle Randall and Ian Randall (graduates of the dance department of Cornish College of the Arts), Joely Loucks, and Middle Eastern dancers Amani and award winning Ferah Bakuy.

“Come party with us and meet the dancers after the show!” Downes said. “Tops’l restaurant, located above Cask and Schooner, is staying open after the show especially for us so we can eat, drink and enjoy after the performance.”

Downes is inviting everyone who attends the ballet to wear a fantasy inspired costume to the show, for fun. “Come dressed as your favorite fairy tale figure or just wear a tiara or carry a wizard wand!”
