On Saturday, November 7, 10:00 am—6:00 pm Griffin Bay Bookstore is celebrating 36 years of bookselling with the annual Open House and Sale. This annual sale with 20% off on all books on the shelves is Laura Norris’ way of thanking our island community for loyal support and on-going patronage, and dedication to an independent bookstore. Come by to shop and have cookies and coffee or apple cider.

You’ll find the bookstore crammed with all manner of books and things literary: New fiction and nonfiction, big picture books, homesteading and gardening books, architecture, history, economics—it’s all here, ready and waiting to pique your interest.

Readers who loved Shantaram, will be drawn to author Gregory David Roberts’ long-awaited The Mountain Shadow. You can go along for a ride with Lisbeth Salander again in a continuation of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Series: The Girl in the Spider’s Web by David Lagercrantz. Amitav Ghosh’s Flood of Fire, concludes his trilogy. The late Ivan Doig’s last novel, Last Bus to Wisdom is a must. Elena Ferrante’s wildly popular Neapolitan novels are in paperback if you want to stock up on all four. There is new and exciting nonfiction: Marilynne Robinson’s The Givenness of Things; Beyond Words: What Animals Think and Feel by Carl Safina; The Art of Memoir by Mary Karr; Patti Smith’s M Train; and Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson.

As usual you’ll find the bookstore stocked with wide range of gift items, perfect for getting you started on your holiday shopping. There’s an ample supply of Advent calendars, stationery, boxed cards, holiday cards, thank you notes, paperclips and sticky notes in various shapes and colors, journals, the traditional-looking Moleskines, others more colorful and zany. There are plenty of 2016 day planners and calendars to get you off on the right foot in January. And jigsaw puzzles and games galore for both children and adults. For long wintry nights, Griffin Bay Bookstore can help you keep a steady supply of good music and DVDs—a great, handpicked selection of movies and boxed sets of BBC productions.
