April 5 Tuesday Film Alive Inside “Things to Consider” Co-Winner (directed by Michael Rossato-Bennett) is a joyous cinematic exploration of music’s capacity to reawaken the souls of people suffering from dementia and other forms of serious memory loss.

The film chronicles the astonishing experiences of individuals around the country who have been revitalized through the simple experience of listening to music they have loved – revealing how the healing power of music can triumph where prescription medication falls short.

This documentary follows social worker Dan Cohen, founder of the nonprofit organization Music & Memory, as he fights to bring music into long-term care facilities. The film-maker also visits family members who have witnessed the miraculous effects of music on their loved ones, and offers illuminating interviews with experts including renowned neurologist and best-selling author Oliver Sacks (Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain) and musician Bobby McFerrin (Don’t Worry, Be Happy).

April 19 Tuesday Film: Tracks
(directed by John Curran) tells the incredible true story of Robyn Davidson, a young woman who in 1977 undertook a perilous solo trek across 1,700 miles of stunning Australian outback. Abandoning city life, Robyn arrives in the town of Alice Springs and declares to the amused locals her ambition to travel to the iconic Ayers Rock and across Western Australia to the ocean.

However, after months of camping out and working on a camel farm (to learn to manage and obtain the animals necessary for her journey), people begin to take her seriously. A chance meeting with National Geographic photographer Rick Smolan provides her with the necessary financing for her expedition under the condition that he be allowed to photograph part of her journey for the magazine.

With only her dog and four unpredictable camels for company, she embarks on an inspiring and life-changing journey of self-discovery.
