Historical Museum Archive Project

Kevin Loftus from the SJI Historical Museum shares this heads up and call for volunteers…

sjhm-50-yr-logoAs we celebrated our 50th year anniversary in 2016, we began to look around at the archival collection we are so honored to care for, and realized it was time for a serious renovation project to prepare the Museum for the next 50 years. As a result, the Museum will be open on a limited basis from December 1 through April of 2017 in order to refresh and renovate our collection.

Because of this project, the Museum will not be holding its annual Old-Fashioned Christmas Celebration this year. We do look forward to December of 2017, when we will be presenting this time-honored tradition once again.

Volunteers will be needed for the Archive Project, beginning in January 2017. Please email project coordinator Diana Mancel at [email protected] or Museum Director Kevin Loftus at [email protected] if you would like to be a part of this effort.

There is a need for organizers, researchers, photographers, amateur archivists, exhibit planners, and just about every facet of volunteering one could imagine. There will be a volunteer orientation, specific tasks, and the opportunity to contribute your time and efforts in continuing to make the San Juan Historical Society and Museum a vital part of the community for years to come.

You can support the San Juan Update by doing business with our loyal advertisers, and by making a one-time contribution or a recurring donation.
