The San Juan Center of Skagit Valley College offers two life-long learning courses this winter.

As the weather chases us indoors for January, February and March, sign up for a community class at the San Juan Center. Pass the winter days enjoying good books and engaging discussions and lectures at the San Juan Center of Skagit Valley College.

In “The World of Travel in Literature” join instructor Michele Griskey for a world-wide literature course.  The theme is travel/the journey and what this means both literally and metaphorically in literature.

The course will cover classical works like those of Homer and Dante Alighieri, as well as more recent works by writers like Marjane Satrapi and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and assorted poems and essays from other writers.

Classes are Tues & Thurs. Beginning Tues, January 8th it will run thru Thurs. March 21, 8:45am – 11:00am.
Cost of class is $90.00 (plus books)

In the class Mother Earth: A state of being and looking toward the future, students will look at how Mother Earth provides for all her inhabitants great and small and all the demands on her.  What is her state of being now and how can we humans be stewards for all into a more sustainable future?

Join Dr. Michael Balise for interesting class lectures and discussions on the ecology of the environment; human populations and essential resources; extraction and harnessing of energy; pollution and its minimization; and looking to a healthy future for all inhabitants of earth through sustainable communities and lifestyles.
