Morgan L. Meadows for Victoria Compton

Dear Island Community,

As a returning resident to SJ County this year, I have renewed hope for the positive actions unfolding which may serve to make our County a sustainable, living model of co-creative and economic interdependence. Because I have a 15-year history of living, working, and teaching in the islands, I strongly advocate for Victoria Compton to fill the role of Port Commissioner of Friday Harbor.

When I was a single mom, raising four kids and developing a successful service business, I learned to reach out to Victoria to help me navigate the unique terrain of island work-life, developing a living wage, and immersing myself in environmentally sound community endeavors. That was real time learning for me and intelligent work for her!

In her role with the EDC, Victoria was a frequent resource and presenter to the students and alumni of the Leadership San Juan Islands (LSJI) program. As a former co-director of LSJI, I believe, from my cumulative experiences in observing Victoria at work, that she understands the brick and mortar and human layers of intentional well-being that are needed going forward. As with all moments of change-for-the-good, there will be unanticipated consequences — and I have no doubt that her compassionate, knowledgeable, and approachable character will serve us well. Choosing Victoria for the FH Port Commissioner seems like a wise, prudent, and perfect sequel to what is next. Let us support her in the current election.

Genuinely,

Morgan L. Meadows, M.Ed.
