As manager of Public Access TV (Channel 19, Friday Harbor Cable) I have videoed both Hospital Board election forums, and I want to pass on my impression of them. The first, sponsored by the “Alternate” Grange, was a blatant attempt by the extreme right of the Republican party to push the electorate away from the obvious choices for the board and towards candidates who support their extreme views on the issues.

One candidate is the former chair of the local Republican party and another is a member of the Tea Party. The third candidate, in the League of Women Voters candidates forum, tried unsuccessfully to link candidates Monica Harrington, Barbara Sharp and Bill Williams into some kind of conspiracy to vote as a block on issues before the Hospital Board. The LWV forum is worth a look on YouTube at https://youtu.be/kZPLeVounhY.

Was the first forum a practice run by the right for future elections? They know they are vastly outnumbered in this county and can only hope to win by masking their true intentions in a “neutral” forum. Who were the sponsors of this forum? — Minnie Kynch, Jack Cory, Frank Penwell et al. Ha!
