Around town, around the island….

Just don’t tell anyone there’s nothing to do around here….
• Maude Cumming from the School District says the fellow they’re looking closely at to be the new superintendent is here tomorrow for you to meet – here’s more:
There will be a Community Forum to meet Superintendent Candidate Rick Thompson from Lynden on Tuesday (tomorrow) at the Middle School Commons from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. All are welcome. The San Juan Island School Board values your input and encourages participation from our community members. Please feel free to join us Tuesday, Jan 25th from 5:00 – 6:00 pm in the Friday Harbor middle school commons.
• That was Matthew Palmer’s elephant in the ferry line last month (here’s the picture)…and I know you’ve been wondering where it ended up. Here’s the scoop from Danielle Dean Palmer:
Matthew Gray Palmer’s sculpture All Things within All Things was safely delivered, installed and dedicated in Norfolk, Virginia last weekend. Heartfelt thanks to all in our island community for your outpouring of support and interest in the project.
More images can be viewed on Matthew’s website.
• Got this nice note from Nancy Ballmann to share with you:
I just want to say thanks to the E.M.T. who helped me on 12/31/09 get to the hospital on time and the medical personnel who realized that there was something wrong and called them.
Also I want to thank all the people who have gone out of they way to help me in my time of need. I haven’t lived in Friday Harbor very long. But you all should be proud of the people in this community. If there is anything I can ever do to help any of you I hope that you will contact me so I can help. I want to send blessings to all of you. And again – thank you so much for all your help and support.
• There’s another showing of Food, Inc. at the Village at the Harbour tonight (Tuesday) at 6:30pm…with popcorn.
• Did you see there’s a big Inventory Sale down at Daisy Bloom? Check it out!
