Captain Von Trapp (George Iliff) calls his family to attention - from left, Gretl (Lucy Marinkovich), Marta (Else Arendt), Brigitta (Joely Loucks), Kurt (Ryan Crawford), Louisa (Courtney Bell), Friedrich (Matthew Stepita), and Liesl (Julie Hagn.)

I think this is one show you’ll be hearing about for a long time. I got to see the dress rehearsal, and it has got everything you go to a musical for….good music, strong acting, perfect costuming, a wonderful set, and a well-paced show that you’re going to tell your friends they should go see (kinda like I’m doing with you, now).

Jill Urbach as Maria delivers the goods – she redefines one of the most famous & well-known characters on her own terms & delivers a powerful performance that will have you smiling & humming the songs as you leave the theater. And you’ll be proud of our poised, pitch-perfect delightful & charming kids – supported by the orchestra, you’ll believe this really is the famous Von Trapp Family Singers.

Get your tickets now…you’ll be glad you did.

Here’s a little taste of “Do Re Mi” from the show:

The hills are ALIVE…Starting Thursday!

The Sound of Music

After a winter and spring of humming doe, a deer, a female deer in anticipation of SJCT’s spring musical, islanders can now relax and watch the story of Maria and the Von Trapps unfold on the Whittier stage.

Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II’s The Sound of Music opens THIS Thursday, May 10 at 7:30 pm in the Whittier Theatre.

Certainly one of the most beloved musicals of all time, the play features more than 40 island actors and actresses*, directed by SJCT’s executive director Merritt Olsen. “One of the joys of directing a musical is that the spirit of collaboration is heightened,” said Olsen. “I’m called the director, but I’m not a set or costume designer. I’m not a choreographer or a musician. Without ‘specialists’ working with me to conceive and execute this production, The Sound of Music would be in big trouble.”

In addition to music director Jim Collado and assistant director Margaret Hall, vocal coach Carol Hooper; choreographer Lisa Duke; costume designer Anita Welch; set designer Brad Welch; properties coordinator Ted Soares and stage manager Ellen Roberts; plus a large crew of other volunteers will assist Merritt in bringing the melodious and romantic story of Maria and Captain Von Trapp to life in Friday Harbor.

Buy Now on line! or Box Office hours are 11 am to 4 pm Tuesday through Friday and 11 am to 2 pm on Saturday.
