It was cool on Tuesday night when Dr. Mike Cohen announced to the Road Scholar program on San Juan Island something he calls the New Copernican Revolution….pretty interesting stuff. Check it out:

The New Copernican Revolution: Advanced Science Strengthens Educators, Counselors, Therapy, Parents

“Although the media and most leaders fail to see the practical contribution of the Higgs Boson, its discovery has triggered a new Copernican Revolution that places Industrial Society in health and wellness balance with its home on Planet Earth.” This is the thrust of new article by  Dr. Michael J. Cohen in the August issue of the Journal of Organic Psychology. http://www.ecopsych.com/journalcopernicus.html.   Cohen, author of eight books on the subject, is the Project NatureConnect Applied Ecopsycology Program Director at Akamai University and the Institute of Global Education.

The Organic Psychology article shows that like the identification of the true central place of the sun in the solar system by Copernicus in 1547 A.D.,  the recent scientific affirmation of the Higgs Boson powerfully confronts the destructive illusions and processes in our central way of thinking today.  This is exactly  like the identification of the true central place of the sun in the solar system by Copernicus in 1547 A.D.

The Higgs Boson detection is significant because our misguided illusions and thinking are the addictive point source of our unbalanced personal, social and environmental disorders.

Entitled “Natural Attraction Ecology, the New Copernican Revolution,” Cohen’s article  identifies a potent, sensory, confirmed remedy for our plight. It is the scientific yet playful process of Educating, Counseling and Healing With Nature (ECHN) that he describes in his book of the same name.

“We cannot afford to ignore its Natural Attraction Ecology (NAE) facts, methods and materials offered by ECHN.” notes Cohen. “They help us remedy our dilemmas by making conscious sensory connections with nature. This enables us to strengthen our natural intelligence with nature’s self-correcting and purifying powers.”

Cohen says, “The claim that the Higgs Boson discovery is impractical concretely demonstrates the immense, disconnected separation between how we learn to think and feel and how nature works.  It discounts that the Copernican Revolution, in conjunction with NAE and ECHN:

– Eliminates death and abandonment along with our fear of them

– Creates peace while it prevents war

– Uses nature’s restorative powers to improve therapies and mental health

– Diminishes our excessive chemical and emotional dependencies

– Reduces medical, social and life-protection expenses

– Gives us an acronym that continually reminds us how to build mutually supportive relationships.

There are billions of people who have had wonderful nature-connected grounding and belonging experiences that they treasure. They already have an elementary awareness of the validity and power of Natural Attraction Ecology.  Funding to help them learn and then teach the process to others is available.”

The article observes that we have always known that the beneficial outcomes from connecting with nature are indisputable facts since we experience and register them first hand when we quietly visit a natural area. Now, what NAE does and how it works to strengthen them is also a fact.

“Applying the NAE process to enhance our authentic nature-connection experiences is the new Copernican Revolution,” says Cohen. “We must engage in it if we are to remedy our detrimental separation from nature and come into peaceful balance.”

Most of the ECHN and NAE research this past decade has taken place in San Juan Island National Historical Park.  It will be first announced in person to the public at the San Juan Center Road Scholar Program of Skagit Valley College.
