The train station in Portland

The train station in Portland

It’s always so much fun to see a familiar island face when traveling away from home. Getting on the train in Portland, we ran into Susan Matthews of the San Juan Island Community Foundation, coming home after visiting relatives for the holidays. What a small world – our assigned seats were right next to each other.

And speaking of trains… Just gotta say, if you’ve never ridden the train to Seattle or Portland or even Vancouver B.C., you really must give it a try. It’s quick, convenient, comfortable, and the scenery is fantastic.

Polar Bear Swim

Lauren Cohen sent over a couple of photos of some brave 2013 New Years Day Polar Bear Swimmers. They swam at County Park at noon on the 1st as they do every year.
