The Southern Residents have 4 brand new babies and the Whale Museum wants to hear your ideas for the perfect names for them. Here’s more from the Museum…

Are you a current Whale Museum member? If not, click here to become one. If you are, members are eligible to suggest names for the four new babies pictured above. If you are the first person to submit a winning name you will win a one year adoption of that calf! Send in your suggestions along with your name and membership number until July 27th to oap [@] whalemuseum [.] org or call (800) 946-7227 ext 24. Please limit two names per whale. Of the names submitted, three names for each whale will be selected for a public vote.

Naming Tips – Selection is based on the suggested criteria:

  • A name that relates to the marine environment of the Pacific Northwest
  • A name that relates to whales in general or a place name from the territory the whales travel in
  • A name in keeping with the matriline of the whale’s family

Vote for your favorite name August 2 through September 9. A ballot will be posted on our website and will also be available in our Exhibit Hall. On September 15, the new calves will be available for adoption on our Meet the Whales webpage.
