John and Emily Geyman for Proposition 1, Hospital Tax Levy

The proposed November election Levy, whereby San Juan County Public Hospital District No. 1 can acquire and expand The Village at the Harbor, is urgently needed to address the acute shortage of beds to meet the needs of our aging island population. The Village would continue as an assisted living facility, enable addition of Medicaid beds and help with staffing. It would also increase assistance for those hoping to age in place at home with family and/or other caregivers.

The need for this has become more pressing since the abrupt closure of Life Care four years ago in Friday Harbor. As the result of careful planning since that closure, this proposal is the most practical and efficient way to improve care for the most vulnerable among us. We strongly support its passage.
