A little background: Public ports in Washington were formed to sustain the economic health of communities. Each port is different and reflects the desires and challenges of its district. Ports are powerful entities for community welfare. Our Port includes the Friday Harbor Airport, the Friday Harbor Marina, Jensens Shipyard, Shipyard Cove Marina and Jackson Beach.

The Port Commission is an elected body of three, each serving six year overlapping terms. The task of the Commission is to hire and oversee the work of the Executive Director and to guide vision, planning and policy for the organization.

Victoria Compton is an excellent candidate for our Port Commission.

• Her credentials include many years focusing on the economy of San Juan Island through her work with the Economic Development Council.
• She has worked with various projects including the ferries, small business development, workforce education, assistance from State resources, development of island broadband, and many others.
• She is firmly committed to making sure such work takes place in ways that support our special island environment.
• She brings new perspectives and new energy to the discussion of our public goals and challenges.

Victoria has demonstrated competence, integrity and goodwill for the health of our community. I can think of no one more suited to help guide our Port forward.
