Mike Macdonald and Claudia LaCava in Support of Mary Verner
In April, we met Mary Verner on San Juan Island. It was her first break in three years after being hired as a deputy in the office of the Commissioner of Public Lands. She visited with her grandchildren for the sole purpose of relaxation and time with family.
On her return to Olympia she was informed that the present commissioner would not seek re-election, so she decided to be a candidate for the position.
Mary’s duties and responsibilities within the department have been varied. She has been widely praised in the effort to secure state funds for the extraordinary fire-fighting expenditures caused by the drought.
Mary has many past accomplishments, which include being the mayor of Spokane. She holds a master’s degree in Environmental Management, and a doctorate in Environmental Law. Her web-site is more detailed as to experience and education: www.maryverner.com
Jennifer Belcher, a former Commissioner of Public Lands, has endorsed Mary. In her opinion, Mary is uniquely qualified for this position. We concur.
San Juan islanders and the residents of Washington should know that the DNR would be in safe and competent hands with Mary at the helm.
