Island Rec serves us all!

I’ve lived in a lot of places in this country, and there are very few offering the array of programs for youth and adults that we have here on San Juan Island! As taxpayers, we support it through a regular levy, and I for one feel I get good value. As a retired senior, I have exercise class, trails and trail walks, drop in and league sports, the dog park, and great community get-togethers like Music on the Lawn in the summer.

When I moved to San Juan Island in 2001, I heard complaints that there wasn’t much for young people to do here on the rock. What a change there has been! Island Rec provides after school programs, summer programs and camps, and so much more. Programs are fun, diverse, well-designed, and supervised. Thank you Island Rec!

As voters, we are now being asked to renew the Island Rec levy for another six years. This levy adds a responsibility for maintaining the new community park and ball fields, which were built with private donations. Based on its record of success in the past, I ask you to join me in voting “Yes” on the new levy for Island Rec!
