Kerry says Lime Kiln rocks!

Kerry says Lime Kiln rocks!

Remember I told you Erin from Lime Kiln State Park was gonna introduce you to the folks who volunteer there? Here’s more about Kerry Hartjen, who answered a few questions:

Tell us about yourself!

Number of years visiting &/or living in the San Juan archipelago: 6 visiting, 2 living here

Occupation in your real, or unreal, life: Oh, there have been ever so many…

Furthest place in world from LKPSP that you have visited: Avignon, So. France

Major passions, besides the whales: Ukuleles, music, art, eagles, peace and quiet, home

What inspired you to volunteer at Lime Kiln Point State Park?
Beautiful Orcas. Beautiful Park. Opportunity to serve both wonderful causes.

What is it that you most enjoy about volunteering here? Learning more about the Orcas and other marine life, and sharing what I am learning with visitors.

Any memorable park experience that sticks out since volunteering? The nice man from Texas who asked me on my first day, “What time do the whales come by? Is morning better?”

If you were limited to only one sentence, how would you describe these islands to a visitor right off the ferry? Leave your need for speed back on the mainland, and these islands will embrace you.

What is something that you have learned since volunteering at the park? What we have here is even more precious and rare than I had thought, and the more people who understand that, the better.

If you were a kabillionaire and cost was no object, what one thing would you buy & donate to the park?  No lump sums of cash accepted…

The San Juan Islands

Is there anything else you would like to share? LKPSP ROCKS!!!
