This weekend six folks were rescued when fishing boat Anna J capsized near Salmon Bank… Charlie Chevalier & Nick Nash were helicoptered to the mainland, while the other were checked & released here on the island at the medical center.
Traci Walter sent me her photos of the folks responding to the accident – see that gallery here.
Here’s more, from Puget Sound Maritime’s compilation of Coast Guard reports.

Good luck & fair winds, Nick & Charlie – we’re all pulling for you!
Friday night I was at my Mom’s cabin on Eagle Cove Rd. watching the fishing boats. There were 3 gillnetters out there and a fish buyer vessel. We watched the Anna J as it was closest in to shore and noted they were having trouble with pulling in their net. It looked really heavy. I didn’t think about it, but they could have been snagged on something. The dory boat was holding the other end and seemed to be trying to take the tension off the net. About 6:15 the starboard side of the stern took on water as the boat was rocking back and forth. Within 10 minutes, I’d walked away from the window, came back and the bottom of the boat was visible. Within about another 10 the bow was up in the air and it sank. It was hard to see the rescues, but it looked like the skiff picked them up and took them over to the fish buyer vessel and they all took off. The coast guard came by helicopter, then by boat. I have the same photo of the coast guard boat coming back in. We’re all thinking of Charlie and Nick pray they’re all okay. I don’t know them, but heard they were from the island. dina lund
