Chamber Music San Juans Presents “Gems of the Masters”
Artistic Director Patricia Kostek brings to the stage eight of the finest classical music personalities and pairs them with exciting, soulful and virtuosic masterworks of classical music compositions to celebrate the start of the new season of Chamber Music San Juans. This first concert will take place Saturday, September 12 at 7:30 pm on the Whittier stage at the San Juan Community Theatre.
Kostek, a celebrated clarinetist and music professor at the University of Victoria, will be joined by virtuoso bassoonist Martin Kuuskmann, just back from a European tour, as well as Seattle area musicians violinist/violist duo, Ron and Roxanna Patterson and cellists Rowena Hammill-Davis and her husband, Doug Davis. Joining the ensemble from Cleveland will be Patterson’s daughter, Joanna, an acclaimed violist and member of the Cleveland Orchestra, and violinist Daisuke Yamamoto, also from Cleveland.
Joanna Patterson was born in the Principality of Monaco. She began viola at age 8, made her solo debut at age 11 performing the Telemann Concerto, and at age 14 was soloist with the Orchestre Philharmonic de Monte Carlo, performing Bruch’s “Romance.”
No stranger to Friday Harbor, Daisuke Yamamoto appeared as soloist here in 2006, performing Kriesler’s “Praeludium and Allegro” to thunderous applause.
The concert will feature the music of Schubert, Hummel and Piazzolla as well as gems from the great Russian masters Tchaikovsky, Borodin and Arensky.
The business partner for this performance is Kings Market. Tickets are $25 for adults and $12 for student reserved. $5 Student RUSH will be available at the door. A private donor has made provision for free tickets to anyone needing financial assistance to attend a Theatre event.
