• The Wolverine volleyball team made visiting Shoreline Christian sit up & notice last night in one of the more exciting games of the season, losing 3-0 but with each game a close one: 29-27, 25-23, 25-22.
Co-captain Jenny Gustafson says the spirit of the team is high. “We’ve had a lot of changes – a couple of girls left the team, a couple are sick, one’s hurt – but we hold together. We’re scrappy, and we love the game.” She and co-captains Kayla Short & Ali Wade work to keep things positive and fun at practice, and she hopes that will pay off at Orcas on Thursday. “We took them to five games last time, early in the season. We’re playing better now – it’ll be fun to see how it goes. We’re pretty hopeful.”
• Meanwhile, the FHHS soccer team started slowly with North Sound Christian, but turned a 0-0 halftime score into a 4-0 victory, which didn’t include a couple that were called back. The 8-3 Wolverines return to action Thursday at Orcas in a game that will help make the season for whichever of the interisland rivals that wins. The girls are definitely on a roll, and are fun to watch.
