Great Island Giveaway and Social
Remember our wonderful community recycling/swap meet last January? Well, get your unused treasures out, dusted off and ready for exchange for this Saturday, November 7, 2009.
Since the Great Island Give Away held last January was so popular, Soroptimist International of Friday Harbor are sponsoring a second one. For those who did not attend, this event was thought up as a way to encourage both recycling and helping those in need. It was well attended and we expect a good crowd for this event too.
What does it entail? Well, first take a few items (the maximum accepted is five, we don’t want to become overwhelmed), functional items that you no longer need or want. Bring them to the Mullis Center between 10:00 am and 10:45 am on Saturday, November 7. During this time, coffee with homemade cookies will be available during the social/drop off hour, but you can certainly drop off your items and return for the give away if you don’t wish to hang around. Once the event gets going, at 11:00 am, you may take a look at things other folks brought, and take home things you need or want. People who have not donated are still welcome to come and enjoy the event, but they will be asked to make a small monetary contribution to help defray the cost for space.
Please no computers, TV’s, electronics, clothing or shoes. What is acceptable? Kitchen equipment, such as mixers, toasters, waffle irons, decorator items, gardening items, like pots and tools, art pieces, office supplies or school supplies like backpacks or calculators, and of course books. Soroptimists will screen items. For more information about this event please visit the local club website at www.SiFri.org or call Pat Hansen at 378-3537.
