Shooting the moon…

You know what “once in a blue moon” means, right? It means “rare,” because a month with a blue moon has two full moons in it….this month has two: this morning (Wednesday) and December 31st.
That’s the moon right after moonrise last night at about 4:30pm, in a photo sent in by Tim Dustrude. (Here’s his website.)

Hi Ian, thanks for posting that photo. I should mention that it looks dark in the photo because I exposed for the moon. Anyone who was outside at 4:30 PM knows it was a lot brighter out than it looks here. But if I had shot this to make the sky look like it really looked at twilight, the moon itself would be nothing but a solid white circle – totally over-exposed. So this was shot at 1/1000th of a second at f/5.6, which at this time of day will make everything look dark. Except the full moon…
