I have been writing songs since before I can remember, and almost every song I’ve written has a phrase in it that I later remember as, “Oh, that sounds like Going to a Garden Party,” or “is that Mandy?” or “Whoa – that kinda sounds a tiny bit like Puff The Magic Dragon!”
Reminds me of when Arlo Gurthrie said something like, “Writing songs is like sitting next to a river & grabbing the good ones when they come by. ‘Course it helps if you’re downstream from Bob Dylan…”
Or John Travolta when he says, “I heard it, then I made it up.”
