New judge’s business under new owners…

Last week, Don Eaton was sworn in as Superior Court Judge, replacing the late John Linde. Pete & Margaret have taken over his practice – here’s more, from Pete:

GODDULANGLIE Acquires Judge Eaton’s Law Practice
When longtime San Juan County lawyer Don Eaton became San Juan County’s Superior Court Judge, he and his wife Shyrl (his legal assistant/ office manager) began the complicated process of closing his law practice after 31 years. At the same time, lawyers Peter (“Pete”) Goddu and Margaret Langlie were winding up a month-long commute (via West Wind Aviation) to Sequim (where they were covering the law practice of a colleague on medical leave) and pondering their next professional move.

As of April 7th the former Law Office of Donald E. Eaton is now GODDULANGLIE, Lawyers-Advisors. Goddu and Langlie—also a husband-wife team and law partners for 28 years—sold their own Ballard/Woodinville law practice in 2008 and have acquired Judge Eaton’s practice, including the location, mailing address, and phone numbers. Discussions between the two couples confirmed that they share a similar philosophy toward their profession: provide client-focused advice utilizing legal expertise and experience combined with common sense, commit to meaningful pro bono work, and contribute to the community they serve. Peter and Margaret’s practice closely mirrored Judge Eaton’s with real estate, commercial and business law, estate planning and probate as the cornerstone of their work.

Peter commented: “We’re very comfortable in all those areas and were pleased to learn how well Don’s practice matched our experience. We enjoy working with individual clients and smaller organizations because it lets us develop a rapport with our clients and a mutual understanding of the lawyer’s role in meeting the client’s needs.” Like Judge Eaton and his wife Shyrl, Peter and Margaret have always been active in the communities where they live and work.

Peter and Margaret live full time aboard their 48’ trawler in the Port of Friday Harbor. Pete, who was a volunteer and an officer with Chelan County Fire District #9 is now a firefighter with the Friday Harbor Fire Department. He is also a qualified operator of the FHFD fireboat, “Confidence,” coincidentally moored on the same dock as their own boat. Margaret has joined the SJI Trails Committee and is a member of the Community Home Trust; she is exploring further options for meaningful community involvement related to stewardship, affordable housing, literacy and seniors. Both Peter and Margaret
are members of the San Juan County 2010 WSU Beach Watchers class and are participating in a research/monitoring project recently begun at the Port of Friday Harbor.
Peter and Margaret have three children and four grandchildren spread among Anchorage, Portland and Wenatchee. Both are active outdoor people favoring hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing and boating when weather permits; reading is their alternate pastime.
