Continuing to tidy up the ferries…

Well, as it happens, I’ve been on the ferries a bunch this month, what with getting the kids at the airport & all that, and I have a few observations:
1) It was really cool that WSF re-directed an extra ferry on Sunday to handle the overflow parking lot at the Anacortes terminal for folks heading to Friday Harbor…they sent the Evergreen State over to help lighten the load. Thanks, and good move!
2) The ferry folks have been pretty cheerful & smiling & helpful (yep, I’m keeping score, ’cause I want people coming to the island to love it, like we do). I saw them on Thanksgiving Day and a bunch between now & then, and the ferry workers are making the ride pretty pleasant. Thanks, and way to go!
3) It is really cool to hear that WSF is gonna paint the Hyak – besides looking better, it also improves the odds she won’t rust & then sink. Now we gotta paint the Yakima – it looks pretty funky.
4) As we welcome people to the island, we need to welcome people, not draw pictures in folks’ heads that they’re coming to the ‘hood & the gangstas gonna get ’em…
The very first sign that people see (with a bigger font than the prices on the sign above, which ya gotta squint to see), says assaults on ferry workers won’t be tolerated. This is what we lead with? Shoot, if someone were going to mess with a ferry worker, they’re going to rush at the toll booth, see the sign & stop? Get real.
I think unwelcoming signs shouldn’t be tolerated.

Regarding the possible removal of the unwelcome \assaults on ferry workers won’t be tolerated\ sign, I assume any such request should be first directed to the Orcas (Lopez?) dwelling transports agency head dude.
I can’t remember his name but recall he recently had to apologize publicly for …….errr….. nearly assaulting a ferry worker ?
I also thought that sign was stupid and offensive.
Does this mean that assaults against anyone else will not be prosecuted? At least any Washington State employee visiting the island will be assured that when they are assaulted here, there will be a proper prosecution and punishment of the offenders!
