You may have heard of these folks…seems pretty right on, for our little island, where we actually know the folks we buy from & work with. Here’s their website; and they’re on FaceBook, and here’s their message, in a nutshell:

I think that most islanders would like to believe that they are of the “shop locally” mentality, even if we have to pay alittle more, myself included, we want to do the right thing. In this downward economy, where unemployment and foreclosures are no longer just someone else’s problem; and income from tourism, real-estate and contruction are our primary source of revenue; where the major employers are the Town and the County; more than ever we all need to support our local businesses. They are all struggling to get through yet another difficult winter, how many more of us will have to close our doors or worse, lose our homes to foreclosure (because nothing is selling in this market, nothing). We appreciate the support of those that have had (and will have) their birthday parties, company meetings, Christmas parties and various events; and most recently we hosted and appreciated the EMS’s Award Ceremony where they enjoyed coming together for bowling and food at Paradise Lanes & Jimmy’s Paradise Cafe. What is said in this article is true, keep the revenue here and think about losing the Costco mentality.
Excellent, Ian! I’m with you here.
Ian,
Great idea. So many local businesses we’d hate to lose. Mi Casa comes to my mind first. Been here forever and I’m hearing they are “feeling the pinch”. Perhaps a couple tacos and a margarita or two ?Lets try to keep local, local eh ?
