Celebrating Janet…

There’s no one with more energy & creativity & heart, and she gives it all to the kids – FHHS’ music & band teacher Janet Olsen is retiring this spring, and she will be much missed.
Besides the regular school program & competitions, every 3-4 years, Janet and the band take a trip somewhere – in 2008, they played in New York on the way to the Caribbean (right); this spring they went to Hawaii, thanks to the fundraising efforts of parents & friends & supporters of music in the schools. Janet has been the key to an incredibly successful kid-centered program – she’s awesome!
At this week’s Wednesday concert, you’ll have a chance to celebrate her & her retirement – here’s more from Kelly Snow:
As you probably know, Janet Olsen, our beloved high school and middle school band director, is retiring at the end of this school year. In honor of her 11 years of teaching countless Friday Harbor students to: play instruments, read music, be a part of a band, and perform before audiences across the country, we are hosting a reception for her immediately following the Spring High School Band Concert at the Community Theatre on Wednesday, May 25.
The free concert begins at 7:00; the reception will begin around 8:00. Anyone who has been involved with Mrs. Olsen and the band is encouraged to attend and wish her well in her retirement!
