Merritt & Janet move on….

When Janet Olsen retired last year from the high school, it was hard to get used to her moving on…now Community Theatre Board president Pat Nieman says Merritt plans to step down as well – here’s her remarks:
Merritt Olsen, Executive Director of the San Juan Community Theatre, has announced his retirement effective June 1, 2012.
The Theatre Board of Trustees and Staff are most grateful for the outstanding work he has done for the Theatre for the past 12 years. The Theatre’s existing staff will manage the Theatre until such time a new executive director is retained. Merritt and Janet Olsen will not only be missed by the Theatre, but by the entire community as they will be moving to Rapid City, South Dakota where they will be closer to family.

What a gift these two have been to us! Their enthusiasm and professionalism have meant a lot to me and my family.
I have been an active volunteer at the community theatre since I arrived on the island over 10 years ago. The opportunity to work with Merritt has been one of the primary reasons I have been so happy contributing my time and energy to this amazing community treasure. He has been a wonderful colleague and friend, and I will miss him a lot.
What a loss. These two are an institution here in Friday Harbor. They will be missed.
The theater won’t be the same without Merritt and his fun announcements before each play. It’s been a great pleasure getting to know Janet and Merritt. Wishing you both the very best retirement!
