Cap’t Cook’s Rabbit Transit
Posted December 4, 2013 at 5:50 am by Tim Dustrude
Here’s this month’s little bit of history, Part IV in our series from the San Juan Historical Museum…
December brings memories of winter driving and snowy island roads. Here’s a Friday Harbor taxi photo from the 1970’s, when rabbit hunting was still more popular than whale watching — and rabbit logos pre-dated orca key chains. Does anyone know the name of this driver for Cap’t Cook’s Rabbit Transit? The San Juan Historical Museum would like to add his name to this photo.
The museum welcomes donations of iconic 20th century photos, as well as photos and records from earlier eras. www.sjmuseum.org

Thanks to an update reader, the museum now has a first name for this driver. It is Andy and he was an insurance agent. Who knows his last name? Please post here or contact the San Juan Historical Museum. Thank you, readers!
I am not sure of the spelling but is it something like ‘Prochey
Provchy May be closer
Hey Robin! I knew Andy and that is not a photo of him.
Wow, I knew Andy Provchy and I never know this about him, if that was indeed him. He is no longer alive. His son was in my high school class. I’m going to see if I can get more info.
Thank you, Tracy and Mimi. We museum volunteers love getting help with this! Standing by for more good clues leading to proper identification.
This is not my dad Andrew Provchy. I asked my mom and she remembered he was the 1St driver after my dad started the taxi service. He did keep every record so I will find the name of the man in the picture.
Thank you, Greg! Dating the photo to a year would also be terrific, in addition to the driver’s name. The San Juan Historical Museum appreciates your help very much. And now we can add your parents’ ownership of Rabbit Transit to documentation of this photo.
