Here’s a notice from the Animal Protection Society of Friday Harbor on their upcoming pet food drive…

aps-logo24The Humane Society of the United States has announced that the 20th Annual World Spay Day will take place February 25. World Spay Day shines a spotlight on spay/neuter as a proven means of saving the lives of companion animals, feral cats, and homeless pets.

For 20 years World Spay Day has provided a unique opportunity for everyone who cares about animals to join together toward a common goal —a comprehensive global, united effort to end the euthanasia and suffering of companion animals.

The Animal Protection Society of Friday Harbor will observe and participate in World Spay Day as they have for the last several years – by kicking off the Annual Community Pet Food Drive Friday, February 14.

This year in an effort to top previous years’ donations, the APS has issued a group challenge and invites island businesses and/or organizations to join in the fun by accepting our challenge to collect the most dry or canned pet food during the 11-day drive. Donors may also contribute cash to be used to purchase pet food for the drive. Pet food donations will be tracked and tallied by the shelter.

Our goal this year is to collect a total of 2 tons of food! The contest will conclude Tuesday, February 25 and the winning team will be announced that evening at the annual “Spaygetti Dinner” at the Mullis Center. The company or organization who collects the most pet food will receive a delicious Lunch for your Group, prepared and delivered by APS staff and volunteers.

For more information on participating in this fun event, contact Jan Murphy or Leslie Byron at the animal shelter at (360) 378-2158 or
