Here’s a note from Ron Krebs, who is announcing his candidacy for Sheriff…

Fellow Islanders:

ron-krebs-photoMy name is Ron Krebs and I am announcing my candidacy for San Juan County Sheriff. I believe our County deserves the very best in public safety and I am asking you to join me in working together to make our islands safer and friendlier for citizens and visitors alike.

By way of background, I am a Marine Corps veteran and served in Kuwait in Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield. Following military service, I spent ten years in management in the private sector. I moved to San Juan County in 2006, as for me, it was the perfect place to follow in my family’s tradition of public service and to start a career in law enforcement as a deputy. My connection with the islands dates back to my early childhood as both my grandparents and mother were longtime island residents.

As your deputy, I serve in many capacities. My co-workers elected me to be the current President of the Sheriff’s Guild. I am also the department’s State WACOPS (Washington Council of Police & Sheriff’s) Representative, as well as a Field Training Officer tasked with training newly hired officers. I instruct Boater Safety classes and am heavily involved in the Sheriff’s Boating and Marine Patrol programs.

In addition to my professional duties, I am passionate about volunteer service. I am a nationally registered EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) and have been active as a San Juan County EMT since 2010. I also care deeply about supporting our local schools and mentoring our youth. My wife and I have four teenage daughters who participate in a variety of school and community activities.

I am further offering to serve our community by becoming your Sheriff.

We need positive leadership and positive direction. We need a Sheriff who will make decisions with the best interests of the entire County in mind. Our Sheriff needs to be someone who can, and will, communicate with the public. We need a Sheriff who realizes our County is unique and that we do not need to do everything the way it is done on the mainland. Finally, we need a Sheriff who can effectively communicate and foster cooperation with both Fire and EMS, a skill essential for the health and safety of our citizens and visitors.

San Juan County deserves a Sheriff who is involved with the community, who will work hand-in-hand with all organizations, and who will work tirelessly to assure we have the safest community possible.

I vow to be that Sheriff, to lead by example and to hold myself and the entire department, accountable to the highest possible standards.

Thank you for your consideration,

Deputy Ron Krebs

  3. I’m glad I was able to move back just in time to become a resident and vote. The one time I have ever had to deal with the law system on the island, Ron was the one who was involved with me and he was incredible at communicating to both myself and my family on the next steps of things as well as following up to see if we had any further questions. You deserve it my friend!
