Saturday, May 31st, 10am and 12:30pm, Boyd Pratt is doing a guided walking tour of historic Sunshine Alley. Meet at Brickworks.

The Town of Friday Harbor’s historic preservation program contracted with Boyd to research the history of the alley–because nothing about the alley had been documented, not even why it is called Sunshine Alley! Boyd has uncovered lots of interesting information about the neighborhood and the people associated with it. Finally we know why Web is spelled with one B and what it is named for, and how Nichols street got its name from the matriarch of the family largely responsible for the development pattern of the neighborhood. Boyd will explain why those three small houses are situated the way they are, and more.

As we look forward to the revitalization of the alley, it will be important to understand it, and to use this understanding to help identify what aspects of the alley are worth saving and rehabilitating, and what can start anew. Join Boyd for this hot-of-the-press (free!) guided tour and history talk. It is going to be a beautiful sunny day to go to the farmers market and take a walk through history.

This tour is part of History Lives Here! heritage month 2014, an annual series of events coordinated and promoted by the Town of Friday Harbor’s historic preservation program.
