This year’s event happens October 4th and 5th and has a new focus on making it fun to wander around the Town of Friday Harbor. Local artists will be demonstrating their various talents to share with all. Follow Artstock signs around town and look for an Autumn Afterglow in the evenings. All participants will have an amber light glowing after the sun has set.
WaterWorks Gallery will feature a talk in the afternoon, 1pm to 3pm, by inspired aquatint artist, Stephen McMillan, He is renewed and invigorated by being in and moving through landscape. It is this sense of renewal that he seeks to share with others through his beautiful rich works on paper. Join him at the gallery for an evening reception from 4pm to 7pm.
Gallery 9 has a special Artstock opening for their featured exhibition by Gerry Newcomb, simply entitled “Island Glass.” Owner, Nina LeBaron will be on hand both days to share her felt making techniques. There will be a reception for Gerry Newcomb during the afterglow from 4pm to 7pm.
Island Studios shows hundreds of artists on a continuing basis. Local painter, Andria Rhine, will be on hand during the day from 3pm to 6pm.
Terry Ogle finally opened his new gallery this year! He is a much-loved islander with a passion for carving wood. He has many new watercolors to share also. His lust for life is infectious. He will be on hand both days and will be getting a glow on in the early evening.
Jamie Ellsworth invites the viewer to first look at the simplicity of her work, then beyond, opening a door to the imagination. Her studio will be open both days for all to meet with this treasured island artist.
Arctic Raven is pleased to have gallery favorite, Ron Aleck, demonstrate his fine line wood carving all afternoon. There will be a reception following from 5pm to 8pm. Music will be provided by local group, OPA.
The San Juan Islands Museum of Art will have a grand opening exhibition on February 14th, 2015. The first show, Illuminated, features extraordinary glass by legendary artist William Morris.
