Painting in the Garden with Annie
Posted September 15, 2014 at 5:25 am by Peggy Sue McRae
Local artist Annie Howell-Adams is in the garden painting the sunflowers that she and her fellow gardeners planted in San Juan Island’s Community Garden (out Spring Street before Douglas Road). Each gardener has a 20′ x 20′ plot, mostly used for vegetables, some that end up helping to keep our local food bank supplied.
Annie’s first year garden is an experiment in permaculture. She is creating her soil out of things like cardboard, kelp, and manure. Still, she has already harvested some handsome scarlet runner beans, and the pumpkins and sunflowers are thriving.

Watching Annie develop a painting is an amazing experience, she has done well with growing vegetables and sunflowers also. Annie is a gift to the entire community, Marty Ahart
