Verdi’s Shakespearean drama opens San Juan Community Theatre’s The Met: Live in HD season on Monday, October 27 at 7:00 p.m. in the Whittier Theatre.
Macbeth features Anna Netrebko in her first Metropolitan Opera performances of the vocally and dramatically demanding role of Lady Macbeth. Bloomberg News calls the performance: “One of the greatest triumphs in recent Met history. …Anna Netrebko… a spectacular artist of vast interpretive skills… a riveting performance dispatched with artistry and fearless intensity.”
Former Royal Shakespeare Company artistic director Adrian Noble’s acclaimed production, led by Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi, also includes Željko Lučić in the title role, Joseph Calleja as Macduff, and René Pape as Banquo.
This is The Met: Live in HD’s ninth season and the second season of its partnership with San Juan Community Theatre. SJCT is one of 2,000 theatrers in 68 countries presenting Macbeth—its October 11 matinee was streamed live and recorded for rebroadcast on October 27.
In addition to The Met: Live in HD presentations, SJCT also rebroadcasts National Theatre Live productions from Great Britain, and in December will begin a partnership with Bolshoi Only In Cinemas with two presentations of The Nutcracker. A schedule of the HD-live events is available at www.sjctheatre.org. SJCT’s new partnership with both programs and the HD equipment to present them, was made possible through a generous bequest from the late Dodie Gann and underwriting by the McGee Foundation.
Tickets for Macbeth are $20 for adults, $18 for SJCT members and $10 for student reserved. Due to a financial agreement with the Met, no SJCT coupons are accepted for these productions. Tickets are available on-line at www.sjctheatre.org or at the SJCT Box Office: 378-3210.
