Island Rec’s response to error in Tax Collection
Posted November 11, 2014 at 8:57 am by Tim Dustrude
At the November 6 meeting of Island Rec Board of Commissioners, the County Assessor notified the Commissioners of the Assessor’s office error in calculating Island Rec’s tax revenue. The Board was shocked and disappointed by this news. Rebounding from this recent development, Island Rec’s Board is looking into how best to continue providing its parks and programs that are an integral part of this community.
This error also affects High School Sports. In 2009 voters approved Island Rec’s levy with 41% of the tax dollars collected going directly to the school to fund the sports program.
Island Rec will keep the public informed of decisions made as they work through the budget implications of this devastating information. Public comments to Island Rec Board commissioners are always welcome.

Sorry to hear of this revenue issue. Island Rec provides a GREAT service to the San Juan Community. I would like to extend a public show of confidence and support to the Board and Sally for all they do as they navigate this difficult situation!
