Here’s Rod Turnbull with another FHHS Fall playoff update…
Below is an update on this past week’s post season activities. Pretty exciting times in Wolverine athletics.
• Boys Tennis – Although few in numbers, our boys tennis team still participated in the 1A/2B/1B District tennis tournament at Amy Yee tennis center on Friday, October 24, 2014. We sent 1 singles player and 1 doubles team. Unfortunately each lost in a first round loser out game.
• Girls Volleyball – Our girls traveled to Napavine High School to take on Life Christian in a loser out winner to state game on Wednesday, November 5. Unfortunately, the girls came up a little short losing to Life Christian in three close sets and have been eliminated from post season play. Congratulations girls on a great season.
• Girls Soccer – After learning that they won the Academic State championship, our girls traveled to Mount Vernon to play Mt Rainier Lutheran in a loser out/winner to state game this past Wednesday. The girls won in a great game on a 3 to 2 shootout advantage moving them to the District 1 -2 seeding game. The girls played again on Saturday in the seeding game vs Crosspoint where they lost 5-0. Even with the loss, the girls have still earned the right to host a 1st round state game at Mount Vernon HS on Saturday, November 15. They are scheduled to play Brewster at 2:00 pm. The winner will move on to the state semi- final game on Friday, November 21, the loser will have their season come to an end.
• Football – Our Football team played hard, but came up short Friday night losing to La Conner17-0. This puts La Conner in the lead for the 2nd and last berth to the state playoffs. La Conner will secure the berth with a win at Orcas on Thursday. Should they lose, Friday Harbor and La Conner would play a tie-break game on Tuesday November 11. Friday Harbor plays one more non-league game on Thursday at 5:00 vs Bellingham.
• Boys Soccer – Not to be outdone by the girls, the boys soccer team also was named State Academic Champions, and also played on Wednesday at Mount Vernon HS. Having already qualified for the state tournament, the boys were playing for the right to be seeded 1st -4th into the state tournament. After losing on Wednesday 1-4 to Mount Vernon Christian, the boys bounced back on Saturday and beat Mt Rainier Lutheran 5-0. With that win, the boys earned the #3 seed into the state tournament and will host Northwest Christian (Colbert) on Saturday, November 15, at Mount Vernon HS. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 pm start. As with the girls, a win moves the team into the state semi-final game, and a loss would end their season.
