‘Tis Is The Season Of Art Openings!
Do you value the high skill level of northwest island artisans? Introducing the season’s new works by Rick Waldron – craftsman and practitioner of the wood arts. Also featured is work of island sculptor Terry Ogle, registered artist with the Island Museum of Art.
Friday, December 12 from 2:00 to 6:00 pm, at The Board Room – 301 Tucker Ave, Friday Harbor, 98250
Since the opening of the board room Christmas pop-up shop in 2013, the year filled itself with commissions of fireplace mantles, high quality benches, dining tables & both luxury and essential fixtures in contemporary and traditional designs, hardwood chess boards, large & small cutting boards, cheese, sushi & baguette boards in gorgeous patterns, also kitchen and home furnishings featuring a beautiful mix of hardwoods.
Friday’s anniversary opening will feature:
- Live music from local musician Ryan Browne
- Fresh, locally hand roasted coffee, beverages and a variety of refreshments to warm you while you tour and shop the beautiful woods
- Fine natural edge wood dining tables, benches, chests, fireplace mantles
Smaller items include:
- Cutting boards in decorative hard wood mixes
- Natural edge single woods
- Spalted oak coasters
- Hardwood fine art
- Collection of vintage woodworking tools and fishing gear always on display.
Washington native and long-time san juan island artist/tradesman Rick Waldron practices traditional construction and joining methods. He creates his pieces in a fully equipped wood shop with saw mill and on-site kiln drying. Rick’s trained eye & unusual talent for designing and building functional, well-made pieces is on display in the gallery in a stunning variety of valuable & affordable pieces. His work carries the professional signature of fine woodwork with woodsman twists.
For the craftsman, designer, contractor or homeowner looking for select woods to complete their project, rick offers:
- Over 3 decades of collecting special woods from the pacific northcoast region: northern california, oregon, washington, idaho, montana, & canada.
- Many indigenous woods of the northwest & many local island woods are featured. In addition woods from around the world, including highly figured burled and spalted woods are available.
- A variety of beautiful kiln dried woods available in cut slabs, planks. Services to help complete your project.
- Ability to coordinate integrating reclaimed materials into work when desired. Years of experience working with other island artisans and partnering with homeowners & contractors in bringing projects to completion. Wood floors, inlay work, and other woodwork, prominantly featured in many northwest homes.
Wood coasters, island wood tree ornaments, and wood wine stoppers make affordable and singularly beautiful stocking stuffers. Large and small pieces available at christmas and year round for gifts for weddings and other special days – we have gifts for you for any occasion.
