Jim Says Thanks

Jim Morrison of the Island Chordsmen Plus, shares this note of thanks with you…
The dust has settled from our “Island Chordsmen Plus” Singing Valentine effort of last month, and it is due time to publicly thank all those who had a part in the fun: those singing and all the receivers; and others making it a success.
Our singers, both young and ‘old’, walked the extra mile in learning a slew of newer songs, taking extra time to perfect them, led by Angel Michaels, one of the Island’s gems, who helped us grow musically to where Islanders would WANT to listen to us warble! On Friday and Valentine’s Day, the singers, in red vests and bow ties, hung in there for two long, fun-filled days of singing to over 400 smiling Islanders as we crisscrossed the Rock, surprising wives, husbands, employees, bystanders, and even appreciative diners at restaurants. An amazing effort by an amazing, dedicated group!
When someone purchases a singing Valentine at our table at Marketplace (thanks to John and the Marketplace crew), or from one of our cards that members pass out, they receive a fresh, red rose, and at least two mushy or otherwise appropriate songs in four-part harmony from our entire chorus of up to 14 singers, not just a quartet! This is our annual fundraiser, the proceeds of which cover the cost of the roses and new music to add to our repertoire. We also enjoyed singing at the Courthouse, Life Care Center, Village at the Harbour, the Post Office, and other settings for fun and community outreach. A heartfelt thanks to Robin and staff at The Village for a wonderful practice location on Thursday nights at 7 PM (come join us!)
Thanks to the Journal of the San Juan Islands for a superb, much appreciated article in the paper about us spreading the cheer on Valentine’s Day. Holly Harbers spearheaded our Music committee with her usual grace and competence to pull together our most fun, most successful Valentine’s Day to date. Well done Chordsmen, and well done San Juan Island residents, fun for all!
Jim Morrison
