Rossini’s bel canto tour-de-force, La Donna del Lago, is the next Met: Live in HD screening at San Juan Community Theatre on Sunday, March 15 at 2:00 p.m.
Based on the poem The Lady of the Lake by Sir Walter Scott, this classic opera features Joyce DiDonato singing the title role of Elena, the lady of the lake, pursued by two men. Juan Diego Flórez is in his fifth Live in HD bel canto role as Giacomo, the benevolent king of Scotland. Though it premiered in Naples in 1819, the opera has never been performed before at the Met.
Michele Mariotti, last featured in the popular Live in HD broadcast of Rigoletto, conducts debuting Scottish director Paul Curran’s staging, a co-production with Santa Fe Opera.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for SJCT members and $10 for student reserved. Due to a financial agreement with the Met, no SJCT coupons are accepted for these productions. Tickets are available on-line at www.sjctheatre.org or at the SJCT Box Office: 378-3210.
