Chosen

Here is a note from Stephanie Prima about Wednesday’s “Chosen” movie event and discussion…
Hi Tim,
Thank you for running the stories about “All-American” girls who have been trafficked from small towns. Here is the final story (PDF), though this one is told from a mother’s standpoint. It’s a bit longer than the others, but it is my hope that every parent in this county will take a moment to read this story. Once they do, they will realize how critical it is to educate ourselves and our children in the signs of trafficking – yes, even in a small town like ours.
For those who missed the other stories, they can be found on the San Juan Update posts for June 2nd, June 9th, and June 16th.
The FREE public educational event is this Wednesday, June 24th, 7:00pm – 8:30pm at the San Juan Community Theatre. The 20-minute documentary Chosen will be shown, followed by slides and presentations from two speakers with Shared Hope International. A local Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking survivor will tell her personal story, and there will ample time for questions & answers with a panel of local law enforcement officers and youth counselors.
With education, there is prevention. I urge all teens and adults to attend this important event. As the frantic mother in this story lamented, “..we were not prepared to protect her. We had not told her about trafficking, and how the traffickers work, because we didn’t know ourselves. If this could happen to us, it could happen to any family.”
