Construction to Begin on Spring Street Landing Commercial Building

The Friday Harbor Port Commission approved a construction contract with Wellman and Zuck for the Spring Street Landing Commercial Building. The publicly bid project was awarded to Wellman and Zuck in the amount of $5.375 million.
This project will begin immediately, with the goal of completing the building in time for the 2016 summer season.
Port Director Marilyn O’Connor acknowledged that construction will impact visitors and activity along the waterfront. Access to the passenger ferry terminal and businesses on the Spring Street Pier will be maintained through the summer season.
“We intend to work closely with the contractor to create safe pedestrian passage and vehicle access along Front Street throughout the construction period. We want to thank our neighbors and community in advance for understanding the need to get this project underway.”
The Port Commissioners also approved a lease with Four Ladies Corporation, parent company of Downriggers Restaurant. The restaurant will occupy the building’s upper level, with both inside and seasonal outside seating looking over the harbor. The downstairs offices will be leased to several water related businesses.

Many of us have been waiting for Downriggers to return, and we hoped the Port District would not award the restaurant contract to anyone else. So, good news today!
