Hi,
Luke here! I invite you to an upcoming FHES 6th grade event on November 10th. A SPAGHETTI FEED & STE(A)M Night!!!!! YAAAAY!!!!! YUM Yum YUM! I’ve got TICKETS to sell for the dinner, if you are interested, The STE(A)M Activities are Free.
I can come by your office or meet in town next week. Pre-sale adult tickets are $8 each, or $10 at the door. Kids are $5. A pre-sale ticket gives us a better head count for the food amount to order. Thanks for supporting our school. And one more thing, if you can’t make it, you can still donate to help send next year’s 6th Graders to Mountain School, we are paying it forward to them!
Email (fincher [@] rockisland [.] com) or call me at 378-9479, if you’d like me to stop by. Or ask another 6th grade student, they can sell tickets, too!
Thanks again! Bye!
Luke
(FYI: Here’s a note from my mom with a little more background info on Mt. School at FHES…)
As you may know, each new school year, our 6th Grade Students get to venture into the North Cascades to do field work in a science curriculum that supports what our students are doing back in the classroom. Mt. School’s environmental education program is valued at about $20,000 for our nearly 60 students. Using a formula, they offer a reduction in price for our students, which comes to about $9000 for each 6th Grade group making this Rite of Passage.
Our families are asked to support their child by paying an equal share, however, we know not all families can afford these experiential learning opportunities, so our school does its best to fundraise to offer scholarships for any family in need.
This year, we are implementing a sponsored dinner, and our local Masonic Lodge has stepped up to purchase the food and even prepare it for us!
The funds raised this year, will be payed forward to next year’s 6th Grade Mt. School group! We hope this will become an annual tradition.
Please consider joining us for a spaghetti dinner, suggested donation of $8 adults and $5 for children, as our 6th Graders pre-sell tickets, so we can get an accurate head count for food. Sales at the door will be $10 adults and $5 for children. Please note: all pre-sales are requested by Nov. 2nd, so food can be ordered.
We will also be hosting a STE(A)M event on the same evening at FHES. We hope you’ll come enjoy some of the fun and interactive activities, there is no cost to come out and enjoy this STE(A)M event. Our 6th Graders will do a presentation at 6pm to showcase some of their findings, while out in the field at Mt. School this October. We thank our community for your kindness and support.

please, please, please, do not use the acronym STE(A)M. we have been working so hard to promote STEM because that is what we, as a country, are failing in. this is not meant to be a slight on the Arts. it is just that we should focus on that separately but just as much. mixing them up just dilutes the importance of both STEM and the Arts.
