World Polio Day

On October 24th, Rotarians around the globe will observe World Polio Day, established by Rotary International over a decade ago. Since 1985, Rotary has contributed nearly $1.2 billion and countless volunteer hours to the protection of more than two billion children in 122 countries.
Since its inception, Rotary of San Juan Islands has donated over $53,000 to support polio eradication with the support from their members, community events Rock the Dock and Concours d’ Elegance.
The disease remains endemic in two countries – Afghanistan and Pakistan. Nigeria was recently removed from this list.
Rotary is dedicated to ending polio in our lifetimes. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will match all donations to Rotary for polio 2-1 through 2018.
