Meet the WSU Extension Director Candidates

Public Invited to Meet WSU San Juan County Extension Director Candidates on Friday, February 19th, 2016

On Friday, February 19th, community members are invited to presentations to be given by the current candidates seeking the WSU San Juan Extension Director position. This event is open to the public and no RSVP is required. The person chosen will serve as the lead administrator for WSU Extension county operations in San Juan County and is responsible for overall management of the local Extension office.

From 10:45 AM-3:00PM on February 19th, each candidate will give a 30-minute presentation on their vision for Extension programming in San Juan County followed by a question and answer session. The presentations will be held at Skagit Valley College (Community Room), and will also be shown via video conferencing at Lopez Public Library and Orcas Public Library.

The four candidates are:

Erica Bates of Olympia, WA
Brook Brouwer of Chimacum, WA
Justin O’Dea of Hurley, NY
Kristen Rezabek of Friday Harbor, WA.

Erica Bates is currently serving as the Water Resources Program Coordinator for WSU Mason County Extension. She received her Master of Marine Affairs with a focus on marine and environmental management, policy, science, and law from the University of Washington in 2012.

Brook Brouwer grew up on a farm on Lopez Island and received his Doctorate in Crop Science from Washington State University in 2015 investigating the production potential of barley and dry beans in western Washington. His past experience includes a Graduate Research Assistantship with the WSU NW Research and Extension Center in Mount Vernon, WA conducting crop variety testing and breeding program for Western Washington.

Justin O’Dea is a Senior Field Crop & Vegetable Resource Educator with Cornell Cooperative Extension, providing commercial vegetable and field crop production technical support for Ulster County and the greater Hudson Valley, NY region. He received his Master’s degree in Land Resources and Environmental Sciences from Montana State University in 2011.

Kristen Rezabek currently works as an Environmental Health Specialist with San Juan County Health and Community Services, as well as a Clinical Dietitian for Peace Island Medical Center in Friday Harbor. She is a Registered Dietitian and received her MS in Nutrition Education from California State University Chico in 2001.
